Congratulations on the 11th annual year of Come Together Kentucky!
We Take PRIDE In Our History! Come Together Kentucky was initiated by University of Kentucky's Lambda Organization in 1994-1995 to bring gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer and transgender students of Kentucky's colleges and universities together. UK Lambda realized that these groups were forming and growing strong at all of the institutions, but they had very little contact with each other. The conference would serve not only as a friendly gathering, but also as a functional means for these students to learn from each other and to get training and education from the workshops on how best to further the causes of GLBTQ students. After the success of the first conference, the students decided to continue the tradition begun by UK Lambda and host another conference the following year at the University of Louisville. It was not long before parties at the state level began to take notice of our little conference and provided funding for its production so long as a prominent part of the conference's programming featured tracts on HIV prevention and safer sex practices including abstinance. 1996 University of Kentucky's Lambda Mission Statement for CTK The EKU PRIDE Alliance will be hosting the 11th annual Come Together Kentucky conference in this year of two-thousand and six. The conference seeks to reach out to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Straight-allied (GLBTQS) communities in and around the state of Kentucky as a means of offering education about the prevention of HIV, Hepatitis, and other STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases). The PRIDE Alliance will continue to uphold a functioning GLBTQS college network, to provide a safer space for building fellowship, to build unity through diversity, and to provide education about GLBTQS issues to foster a harmonious environment absent of discrimination and intolerance. |
