The Constitution of The Pride Alliance

Article I: The name of this organization shall be "The Pride Alliance." This name may be amended in the future as per the bylaws, and must have approval of the appropriate student offices(s).

Article II: The purpose of this organization shall be to provide information, education, and opportunity for growth and support to the homosexual, bisexual, transgender, and heterosexual student body and to any other member of the student body, faculty, staff and the community at large which may desire to obtain it.

It shall be the purpose of this organization to provide outreach services and education to the community as a whole for both the purposes of improving the community and the image of the students within the organization. Pride Alliance shall provide information on the historical role of the sexually oriented minority groups in America and the world society.

Article III: Any person regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, financial ability, or any disability may be a member of The Pride Alliance.

Article IV: The elected offices of this organization shall be:

*One President *One Vice President *One Public Relations *One Secretary *One Treasurer

The offices of President and Vice President shall be filled by a male, female, and/or transgendered. One of these groups may not be represented in both offices.  One, but not both, of the offices of President and Vice President may be filled by a member of the sexual majority. In cases where this representation cannot be filled due to lack of running mates a pseudo office shall be erected. This office will be the pseudo Vice President, and can be filled by any sex, and will have all duties entitled to the Vice President without voting rights. The person to fill the position of pseudo Vice President may be preprocessed by any member but must be approved by at least 2/3 majority of members in attendance at the time of the vote.

Role of the President:

The President must reside over and keep order throughout the meetings. The President will have the duty of writing the weekly agenda. After all records are received and places into the agenda, the President is responsible for making sure the agenda and all other available information is give to the Vice-President. The President is responsible for making sure activities and meetings are planned and carried out in accordance with the organizations' goals. The President will also be responsible for making sure that any member of non-member may have a copy of the constitution and by-laws. They are to make sure that all guidelines and regulations are followed. They are to form a committee and preside over that committee with the task of performing an audit of the organizations' funds once in the middle of each semester. Their term shall be two semesters (fall and spring) plus two weeks.   The President may delegate to any individual any of the powers granted herein.

Role of the Vice President:

The Vice President shall help assist in residing over the meetings and keeping order. They will be in charge of keeping all records, and all records organized in the fashion that will allow them to be passed along to the next officers. This shall include but not be limited to the weekly agendas, roll sheets, presenters and contact information. Their term shall be two semesters (fall and spring) plus two weeks.

Role of Public Relations:

The Public Relations person will be in charge of getting information out into the public, this includes but is not limited to: flyers about meetings, information about the group, finalizing speaker presentations, work as a go between with other groups, school, organizations, and with faculty. Their term shall be one semester plus two weeks.

Role of Treasurer:

The role of Treasurer is to keep accurate accounts of all the incoming and out going money, and present this information weekly at the meetings. This will be placed in a report and given to the President to be placed in the agenda for the following meeting. It shall be the duty of the Treasurer to provide all materials to the internal auditors' office for the annual audit and to the President for a semester audit. Their term shall be one semester plus two weeks.

Role of Secretary:

The Secretary must take minutes at the meetings and make sure those minutes are given to the President to be put in the agenda for the following week. Their term shall be one semester plus two weeks.

The non-elected offices of this organization shall be:

One (1) Historian

One (1) Webmaster

Two (2) Co-mentors

Role of the Historian:

It shall be the Historians' duty to keep a scrapbook of the events the organization takes part in and to keep a record of all past offices and activities. Their term shall be one semester plus two weeks.

Role of the Webmaster:

It shall be the Webmasters' duty to watch over and keep up-to-date records on the list server and the webpages. Their term shall be one semester plus two weeks.

 

Role of the Co-Mentors

 

The Co-Mentors shall be recommended by the President and passed by a plurality of the vote (in this instance a 2/3 vote of members present).  They shall be able to hold other offices, for example the President, Vice President, or any other officer may, at their own discretion, serve in both their official capacity and as a Co-Mentor.  Of the Co-Mentors, they shall be in all instances One (1) male and one (1) female.

 

*No one on academic probation will be eligible to hold any office.

 

Article V: Elections will be held at the end of each semester by secret ballot. Any member(s) wishing to vote in any ballot must be in attendance. No vote of proxy will be accepted. The same person may hold any two offices other than the President or Vice President. In the case that there is ever an even number voting members present, the President will only vote to break a tie.

If any officer or voting member shall at anytime be placed on academic probation they shall be suspended from their office if an officer, and lose their voting privileges until a time when they have been removed from academic probation.

Officers may be removed from their position(s) with a 3/4 vote of all voting members for activities such as embezzlement or theft of Pride funds, abuse or misuse of power as decided by al members, or failure to live up the standards of this organization and its members.

If any officer should be removed or resign, their position shall be filled by the next officer if the following order: Vice President, Public Relations, Treasurer, Secretary. If three or more offices should be vacated at one time then the remaining officers will fill in the space at the top of the succession until an emergency election can take place. This election will allow the people to be voted into the vacated spots and remaining the original officers to take their original positions.

All members shall be allowed to make motions.

If there is a time that a committee needs to be formed, the President with the help of the Vice President will see to its creation. This committee must be made up of an odd number of people.

If interpretation of the constitution or by-laws should ever come into question, then a committee comprised of no less than 5 members no more than 7 members shall be created to resolve the question. Disputing members may not be members of this committee. Decisions of this committee may be overturned by a 3/4 vote of present members.

Any other committee may be formed and will be recognized by the organization but will not be allocated any funding.

Article VI: Meetings of all members shall be held no more then once per week, no less then twice per month. The purpose of these meetings should be to pass along information and to provide a safe place for education. Meeting dates for the next semester shall be agreed upon during the time of elections. Meeting times may not be changed without a 3/4 vote of present members.

Article VII: A 2/3 majority of voting members will be required to amend the constitution or by-laws.

By-Laws

1. All rules and regulations stated in the constitution must be followed.

2. The privacy of all members shall be kept and names will not be given out.

3. Each officers' term contains a statement of plus two weeks. During this time they will be expected to teach those coming into their positions. If any officer is not going to return to the University to serve those two weeks then it falls onto the President to teach those new offices.

 

This Constitution has been revised pursuant to the rules expressed herein.



This constitution is new as of 2005-2006.
